Rockport Cemetery Note
Note from Judy
Information on the Texas Historical Marker at the Rockport Cemetery is incorrect.
The Texas Historical Marker at the Rockport Cemetery in Aransas County, Texas, claims that the oldest marked grave in the Rockport Cemetery is that of Emma Fulton who died in 1876. That information is incorrect.
Actually there is an older marker in the Rockport Cemetery, that of Andrew J. Hogan, who died Dec. 8, 1874. I photographed the headstone. A big bush is in front of the headstone, so it is partially hidden, but it is there. Andrew J. Hogan's headstone is near the fence line, inside the cemetery.
I posted a photo of the headstone and other information on the following website: findagrave.com
Andrew J. Hogan is shown as postmaster of Rockport, Refugio County, Texas in 1869. He and Oliver P. Reid, Jr. were co-owners of "The Finish" Saloon in Rockport. See: Refugio County
I do not know who to contact to get this erroneous information on the Rockport Cemetery marker corrected.
