Dunn / Aldredge Cemetery

Located West of Lufkin, 1 mile south of Hwy 103 on FM 706. Turn west on FM 1194 off of West Loop 287, when FM 1194 turns south (left) go straight on FM 3150. At the Y at FM 706 and FM 3150, turn right. The cemetery is on the right.

John W. Hill served in the
Civil War in Co. "D", 1st Missouri Vol. Cav., C.S.A. under Capt. Adams. He
served in M.S.G. in Capt. Parker's Co. of Scouts 3rd Div.
Battles: - Sugar Creek, Bentonville, Elk Horn,
Farmington, Iuka, Corinth where severely wounded and could no longer practice
his profession.
Discharged July, 1863. He received a gun shot
in one arm in the Battle of Corinth on October 3, 1862. He became a prisoner of
war in Vicksburg, Mississippi and recuperated in a private household there for
"three months and twenty-five days", after which he returned 600 miles to
Springfield, Missouri.
He was in the Texas Confederate Home for a
time, but was released November 22, 1916.
He married Mrs. Missouri Drusilla Ridge
Buckelew, a widow of B. U. Buckelew in Nacogdoches County, Texas April 12, 1873.
M. D. Hill was interred by Glenn Undertaking (later, Gipson's Funeral Home) in
the Dunn-Aldredge Cemetery as well. She was born August 12, 1849 in Mississippi,
the daughter of Godfrey Ridge and Martha Boatman. She died October 20, 1935.
Burial: October 22, 1935, Dunn-Aldredge Cemetery.
CSA Pension: Missouri D. indicated that John W.
Hill died on December 31, 1920, but tombstone indicates December 21, 1920.
Buried at Dunn-Aldredge Cemetery, Clawson, Angelina Co., TX.
Although the censuses state that John W. Hill
was born in Texas, he was actually born just after the Republic of Texas in the
Province of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Military service: Civil War Pension (07973)
filed Titus Co., TX.
John W. Hill and family lived in Cherokee
County for many years. They spent many years in Clawson."
