My grandfather, Dr. Lonnie Lee Cockerell born June 4, 1879 near Rodey, Texas, married Elizabeth Eula Earnest, born September 9, 1881 in Mississippi. The couple was married January 9, 1902 at Picken's Spur, Henderson County, Texas at her brother's home. Both are buried in the Moorehead Cemetery. The parents of Elizabeth were Marion Francis Earnest, born June 25, 1844 in Mississippi, who married Mary Rebeca Hendley, born April 24, 1848 in Mississippi. Both are buried in the Moorehead Cemetery. The parents of Dr. Lonnie Lee Cockerell were Archibald C. Cockerell, born December 27, 1824 near Atlanta, Georgia, who married first Mary Minerva Hittson, who died September 4, 1875 and is buried in the Beard Cemetery. Arch Cockerell then married Van Burena Rush, born December 27, 1846 in Mercer's Colony, which was in Henderson County, Texas at the time. Her parents were Major James M. Rush, born about 1807 in Habersham County, Georgia, and married Tennessee Blair, born about 1810 in Davidson County, Tennessee. This couple came to the Republic of Texas in the spring of 1845 and obtained a land grant in the Mercer Colony and settled in what is now the northern part of Van Zandt County and built the first toll bridge over the Sabine River. My grandfather, Thomas Bruce Green, born August 7, 1857 in Tryon Mills, Henderson County, Texas. He married 3 times, 1st to Judy A. Holliman, who died November 22, 1880 and is buried in the Friendship Cemetery in Brownsboro, Texas. He next married Mittie Carlton who died February 10, 1900 and is buried in Athens, Texas. He next married Mittie's sister, Lucy J. Carlton, born June 3, 1878 in Smith County, Texas, and died August 2, 1918 and is buried in Athens, Texas. She was the mother of my father, Thomas Bruce Green, Jr. born September 1, 1910 in Athens, Texas. My father married Melba Dal Cockerell, born March 28, 1911 in Eustace, Texas. My parents were living in Eustace, Texas when I was born in Athens, Texas July 17, 1939. I am married to Margo Irene Oberkampf and we have one daughter Holly Ann Green married to Brian Allen Childs.
