Malakoff High School
This building is the Malakoff High School, built in
1927. The school
burned in 1940. It was terrible to stand and watch it burn. We
had a
large trophy case and the trophies were all melted together.
The band mothers had just bought new band uniforms and all but 4
or 5 of them went up in flames. But the band mothers started to
work
again, and it wasn't long before they had replaced them. After
the high
school burned, classes were held anywhere there was a vacant
room,
building or church in Malakoff.
The football field and track were immediately behind the school.
We
had the first lighted field in the area. The County Track Meet
was held
in Malakoff every year. Most all of the other events were held in
Athens.
Malakoff always did well.
