Congratulations, Seniors of 1949
From The Malakoff News
While the various business concerns of the city are using the
columns of the News this week to convey congratulatory messages
to the Malakoff High School Senior Class of 1949, let it not be
said that this column is negligent in that respect. On the other
hand we would extend to the young men and the young women of that
class our heartiest congratulations which emanate from the very
bottom of our heart. To be a high school graduate is a distinct
mark of achievement and the holder of each such diploma has every
right to be justly proud. Graduation is, within itself, a
recommendation of courage, honest effort, and of grim
determination on the part of the individual student, with the
diploma setting him apart, and on a higher plane from those with
lesser grit or opportunity.
In this day of specialty when emphasis is placed on education and
ability the members of this class of 49, as those seniors
have aforetime, are very likely to find their high school
diplomas paving the way to a successful beginning in their
lifes work. Many youngsters have found, in their first
efforts to enter the world of business, that the first question
asked by would-be employers is, "Do you have a high school
diploma?" The first opportunity, oftentimes, is missed
entirely if, unfortunately, the answer is No.
Thus, if nothing more, the high school diploma recommends the
applicant to be a young man or young woman, as a person of
diligence of effort and perseverance, which is always the first
qualification sought by employers everywhere. With this first
stream successfully forded, the high school graduate, as time has
most forcefully proven, is at least a jump ahead of those who
have failed to demonstrate a consistent and determined effort in
early life.
The high school graduate, when it is all summed up, in addition
to the mark of distinction contained within the diploma itself,
has surely earned the congratulations of his friends and the News
joins wholeheartedly in this spirit, wishing for each and every
one of this class, the utmost in happiness and success as they
travel along their various ways along lifes journey.
