"The Lignite City" is represented among the finalists in the current contest at the Capitol City which will select "Miss Austin for 1955," in the person of Miss Patricia Humphries, charming daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Clyde Humphries.

"Pat," as she is affectionately known here, was one of the four university of Texas co-eds, who walked away with four of the top five places in the preliminaries.

The contestants were judged on poise, personality, individual talents, and general appearance. The wee first modeled in evening dresses for personal interviews, and later in bathing suits.

Judges were members of the Board of Directors of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the contest.

For the talent part of the judging, Miss Humphries played a piano medley. A University sophomore from Malakoff, Pat was in the Most Beautiful Freshman contest and is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Miss Austin will be chosen June 29th at the Paramount Theatre and the finalist will be sent to the Miss Texas contest. She will also receive a trip to Mexico to see the bull fights at Villa Acuna and many other prizes to be presented by Austin's business firms.
