Walnut Creek Farmer Loses Home By Fire

J. B. Anders of the Walnut Creek community lost his home by fire at ten o'clock Friday morning. The
fire originated from a defective flue and caught when Mrs. Anders burned some old papers that had
accumulated in the heater. The blaze spread rapidly and in a few minutes time the entire house was in
flames. Mr. Anders was working in the field about four hundred yards from the house when he saw
the smoke. He ran to the house and succeeded in saving a couple of bed steads and sewing machine.
While dragging a cabinet out of the burning house the wind changed and the blaze burned one of
his hands badly as well as singed his hair.

The house was owned by W. A. Schrader and was valued at $1250. Mr. Anders placed his loss at
$250. Neither carried insurance.

This makes the third home destroyed by fire in the Walnut community since January 1st.
