Athens Weekly Review
Thursday July 23, 1925
Walnut Creek

July 21-- Floyd Ingram, Henderson county's foremost farmer sold his first bale of cotton at
Athens Monday, it being the first one of the season in the county for which he received a
very substantial premium. I predicted early in the spring that he would be first and I'm glad
he saved my reputation as a seer. I feel perfectly safe in predicting that he will be first in 1926.

We are very dry in this part and crops are very short, but if reports are true from Central
Texas we should be thankful for what we have. Herd after herd of mules are passing
through from Central Texas hunting grass and water.
There was upwards of fifty passed through yesterday in one drove aside from a number
of smaller bunches.

All upland cotton has thrown off everything but the few bolls that are on it. Nothing short
of a general soaker could give us anything like a normal crop. Without rain I predict our
cotton crop will be cut in half.

The Methodist revival conducted by Rev. Weatherby came to a close last Friday night.

Miss Ethel Brownlow and Miss Ima Selman have returned from an extended visit at Marshall.

Tommie and Walter Brownlow and Lee Goodgame of Daducah, are visiting in the
community. There were others in the party but am sorry I failed to get their names.

Mrs. C. O. Thompson of Mill Run visited at the home of Dan Hagain last Friday night.

Rob and Jess Glasgow are sporting a new Ford.

Quite a few from here are attending the Baptist revival at Oakland this week.

Litt Ballow visited Summer Kimbrell at Cross Roads Sunday.

Quite a few expressed a desire to see the Mabank-Crockett game at Athens tomorrow.

Traffic on our road became so heavy Mrs. R. L. Tanner took it on herself to
count the cars passing in one day and the result was upwards of 500 in one
day and she says it was an off day.

Mr. and Mrs. Summer Kimbrell of Cross Roads were week-end visitors in the Community.
