Many Well Known County Couples To Observe Silver Wedding Dates
In 1940 Old Record Book Reveals

The year 1940 will be a year of "Silver Wedding" anniversaries, a look through the marriage records
at the courthouse reveals. A large number of Henderson county couples will complete twenty-five years
of married life and most of them have spent the quarter of a century as residents of the county in which
they were married back in 1915.
The following couples are among those who will observe their "Silver" anniversaries this year:
Mr. and Mrs. Charley Scarborough of LaPoynor, April 24th. She is the former Miss Annie Laura Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Castleberry, Brownsboro, on May 28th. Mrs. Castleberry's maiden name was Ruth Gideon.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lehr of Athens, she being the former Miss Oma Bell Davis. The date is June 22nd.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Vieregge of Malakoff on June 18th. She is the former Miss Bessie Dowell.
Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Roby of Flat Creek community will complete twenty-five years of married life on
September 29th. Mrs. Roby was before her marriage, Miss Nina Hood.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Stogner of Athens, Rt 2. She is the former Miss Lillie Browning and they were married on Oct 6th.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Warren (Miss Willie Spencer) were married on November 19th, 1915 the records show.
Another Athens couple scheduled to observe the Silver anniversary date is Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Walls, who
were married here on November 14th. She is the former Miss Kathleen Deen.
T. O. Milner and Miss Flora Ethel Foster wee married on December 22nd, 1915 and will be among those
celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Elton Cox and bride the former Miss Carrie Foster will observe their Silver anniversary on next December 27th.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Reynolds of LaRue compose another couple on the Silver anniversary list. They were married
November 24th, 1915. She is the former Miss Mildred Dingler.
Jessie Coker and Miss Anna B. Garrett were married on Christmas eve, December 24th, 1915.
A former Henderson county couple on the Silver anniversary list is Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Dickey, who now
live at Shamrock, Texas. They were married on January 16th, 1915.
Mr. and Mrs. Collier Perry of Athens celebrated their Silver anniversary on February 25th. She is the former
Miss Jewell Powell.
Thomas Knox Harris and Miss Frances Yantis, now living in Fort Worth, were married here on March 17th, 1915.
The records show, March 9th, 1915, was the date of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Love Williams, she being the
former Miss Mary Lela Welborne.
Other couples who observed their Silver anniversaries during February of this year include Mr, and Mrs, A. S.
Underwood (February 17th), and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Dorbandt (February 16th).
