The Athens Review
June 19, 1903
New York

Uncle Johnnie Gauntt paid a visit to his son, Bass near Athens last week. Uncle Johnnie is 73 years old, has very successfully raised a large family and now has about fifty grand children and some great grand children. he settled where he now lives 51 years ago but is a citizen of Henderson county 53 years. He says when he was farming he never bought an ear of corn and very little bacon. He is a brother of Uncle Jim Gauntt spoken of several weeks ago. They both live joining farms and New York feels proud to have such citizens as they have made.
W. M. Gauntt, county commissioner, and Bob and General and Bass all good men and good citizens of Athens, are his sons. He lives at his home with his son Dee, who is also an exception of a boy.
Ben Broyles of Mertens, Hill county is visiting his sister, Mrs. Ann Click of this section.
Tom Hall and wife have a new boy at their home. Tom says this means another to the REVIEW. This is his fifth boy and seventh child all living.
School closed at LaRue and Misses Emma Reeves and Ione Ansley passed through the city Saturday en route for their home. They were accompanied by Carl Reeves.
New York is out of feed and the situations rather discouraging at this writing; neither
money nor love will buy feed. B. C. Hall has been looking for a car for nearly two weeks. He
ordered it before the terrible floods or I guess he would not get it at all.
L. Belcher and Mr. Wood and Mr. Johnson, post master of Baxter, were visitors in the city last week.
Mrs. M. E. Stewart returned to the home of her son, L. R. Browning, Saturday after an extended visit to relatives in extreme West Texas and Oklahoma and Indian Territory.
Crops are looking well here; corn has come out wonderfully since the recent rains.
Rev. Pulley, Dr. Hall and B. C. Hall left today for district conference at Troupe.
Citizen.
