Athens Now Connected with High Line
At exactly 12:04 Saturday morn, four minutes after midnight, the power from Texas Power and Light Co., high line from Corsicana began to furnish electricity to Athens. All connections necessary to the change were completed Friday, but officals refused to connect the power on that day due to the usual Hoodoo that follows events that transpire on Friday. The connection was made without a hitch and only required a seconds's time. Athenians who were up at that hour were unaware that a change was being made as the lights merely flickered for a second. As electric globe connected with the Athens board was placed just above the switch connecting the Corsicana line. The time for that change was placed at 12:04 and as switch was turned off at the old plant and the new light flickered out, the other switch was immediately thrown on.
Fires were allowed to die at the old plant and for the first time in many years now it is standing idle. With the new soures of supply Athens can be furnished unlimited amount of power and light for all purposes.
Incidentally were it or not for this new source of supply it would not be possible to operate the new ice plant electrically. This plant alone uses approximately three times the amount of electricity that the entire city uses for the local plant to furnish it without additional equipment.
