THE OLD FIDDLERS CONTEST
The old fiddlers contest was pulled off at the Court House
Wednesday night.
Only a small house was present and the promoters barely made
expenses.
The following contestants were present and participated. M.
J. Hendley,
J. B. Gauntt, W. L. Faulk, Zack Davis, T. A. Hancock, G.
H. Scott, John Watson
and E. L. Gasaway.
Two of the awarding committee Dr. Carothers and A.
C. Hart failing to appear,
Hon. M. H. Gussett of Kaufman and J. C.
Wood were appointed in their places.
The committee awarded the prizes as follows: First, a gold watch
to T. A. Hancock;
Second prize a hat to Zack Davis; Third prize, a
pair of shoes to Judge Faulk;
Fourth prize, a years subscription to the REVIEW, to M.
J. Hendley and fifth prize
same as fourth to John Watson.
Mr. Gossett spoke fo the committee and stated
that the prizes were awarded by a
majority vote not by a unanimous one. Misses Bettie
Miller, Fannie Stirman and
Nellie Garrett played a trio that was applauded
and encored. Miss Callie Deen
gave a piano solo that was encored. Miss Pearlie
Miller played a piano solo which
was applauded. The affair passed off very pleasantly and
the crow seemed to enjoy
the music by the old fiddlers immensely.
Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Still of Mabank, Mrs.
Dodge Mason of Kaufman and Hon. M. H. Gossett
of Kaufman attended the old fiddlers contest Wednesday
night. Mr. Still enjoyed himself
immensely. He said the committee of award by their
dignified appearance reminded
him of the Hague Conference wrestling with the Venezuelaian
question.
