AN APPEAL
To the Charity of the School Children of Henderson County and any one else that may be
willing to aid us in behalf of Little Jessie Thomas, who accidentally got his hand shot off
not long since.
Little Jessie Thomas is a very deserving boy. His father is a poor man, lost some of his
fingers from a snake bite and blood poison, and is otherwise afflicted, and as Jessie
has been so unfortunate and has heavy doctor bills to meet and is disabled for life, we
want to buy for him an artificial hand, at a cost of $40.00, and clothing for the little fellow.
Jessie has been hauling wood for the school he was attending, in all the bad weather.
On Saturdays he was trying to help his crippled and afflicted father every way he could.
He is working very hard to secure an education and we feel like the school children and
others will be glad to assist this worthy boy and his crippled father. Just a samll amount
from all will help so much. In helping this boy we feel that our school children and others
will be doing a good part. We hope the teachers in the different schools in the county will
bring this matter before the schools and urge them to assist us in raising means for this
deserving boy to go ahead and get a good education, which he so much craves and so
badly needs now worse than ever, as of course he is crippled for life and can not do all
kinds of work, hence the necessity of an education.
His family has not asked for this aid, but will greatly appreciate it and badly need it, and
we know that it will be a godsend to him, his crippled father, sorrowing mother and sad
and aged grandmother, who lives with them, and we are sure that every dollar given will
be judiciously used. Jessie keeps his little money purse on the bed by him.
