Couple Celebrates Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ard

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ard, who were married October 24, 1898,
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an informal open
house from 3 to 7 p.m.  Sunday at their home in Brownsboro.
Mrs. Ard was born in Mississippi and came to Texas when very small
when her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ely Barry, moved to Collinsville,
Texas.  In the early 1800's, her parents moved to the neighborhood
of Leagueville, where she later married her husband.

Mr. Ard was born in Henderson County on a farm near New York.
He is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Ard, "Aunt Laura" and "Uncle
Pick," as they were affectionately known.  "Uncle Pick" passed
away several years ago, but "Aunt Laura," is making her home in
Brownsboro with her son, at this time.

Clara and Will, as Mr. and Mrs. Ard are called by relatives and friends
alike, have four living children and two deceased.  One of their
daughters, Elaine Ard, is teaching school in Alvin, Texas, and their
younger daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Perry, is living in Farfurrias, Texas.
The oldest son, Will D. Ard is a pharmacist in Austin, Texas, where
he and his family live.  Their younger son, Ely Bob Ard, a civilian
employee of the Army Air Force, resides with his wife in Midwest
City, Oklahoma.  He is at present, however, on datched service in
England and cannot attend the celebration.  The other three children
plan to return home for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Ard have three grandchildren, William M (unreadable)
George, and Marie Elaine, children of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Ard of
Austin, Texas.

Mr. Ard has sold his drug store and retired during the last two years.
I. A. Barton, who was a Justice of Peace in Brownsboro in 1898,
performed the wedding ceremony.  Mr. Barton still lives in
Brownsboro and is well known as "Uncle Ide."
