Sheriff Sweeten Adds Bloodhounds For War On Crime
Athens, Texas
August 10, 1949
When Sheriff Jess Sweeten of Henderson County resumed his
14-year-old career of crime busting after losing the office for
two years to an ex-serviceman,
he set about making his area even tougher on criminals.
He recently installed a 2-way radio at the county jail and
equipped all sheriff department cars with receiving and sending
sets.
Now he is preparing to go even farther.
Sweeten, along with his cow pony, has a new trailer and two
bloodhounds that can be carted down the highways at seventy-five
miles an hour.
He described his new equipment as "an absolute"
necessity on special crimes.
