Roadside Park Is Completed

Athens Review
April 14, 1966

By Atheleen Youngblood

April 11
Athens Review writer Gurley Sanders was called by Miss Wilma Waddell of Athens asking him to make a visit to our new park site and spring. He filled
the request last week, making pictures of Miss Waddell, also Mrs. Ed Rice drinking water from the spring. We appreciate his kindness and help toward
making our park complete. If all goes well, we hope to announce in May the day of dedication and for Memorial Services upon completion at our new park,
which will be named The "Featherston Roadside Park" after our good road commissioner. Our new mayor of Walton, Mrs.Ed Rice, suggested the idea and
we all agree with her.

We are happy to report Mrs. James Green was able to return to her job in Athens last week.

Ronnie Foster of Irving visited Cathy Youngblood Sunday, also did some fishing while out in country.

Sunday visitors in the Della Youngblood and Whitehead homes were Mr. Eugene Malone and wife, Virgie Mae, also son Danny, and Mrs. Mattie Joe Malone
and children, Ronnie and Tina, all of Athens.

Dianna Youngblood and the children had an egg hunt on nice green grassy lawn at the Whitehead home.

Those visiting Sunday in the Dean Green home were Earnest Bass and family, Oran Bass of Athens, Dewayne McCarley and family of Tyler, Mrs. Luke Jumper
and family, also Mrs. Julie Stephens, the mother of Mrs. Dean Green. The children had a very happy time hunting Easter eggs.

Sunday visitors in James Green home were Ann and Dale Christopher, Cynthia and Bobby Jean, of Athens, also Virgil Crocker and family of Dallas. They all enjoyed a happy Easter together.

We understand Jesse Lowry, who is in the service, was expected home for a visit this week end. He is the husband of Cherry Sue Lowry.

Mr. George D. Rice of Abilene and a nephew of E. A. Rice was a recent visitor in the Rice home here. While here he went horseback riding on Little John,
the colt that was recently trained to ride.

Newt and Juanita Stillwell were Wednesday visitors at Longview. They were to return home last week.

Easter visitors in the Fred Miller home were Carl, Jay, Martha and Freddie Fladd, Everett Vegay and wife and two daughters, Carol and Lora, all of Dallas;
Mrs. C. V. Foster and son, Ronnie of Irving, and Cathy Youngblood, Raymond Fladd and Larry and Gary Foster of Athens.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller were recent visitors in the G. R. Fladd home and in the Mrs. Locky Skaggs home in Athens.

Miss Dona Daniels visited in the H. O. Wilkerson home at Dallas from Thursday until Saturday. He is Dona's uncle.

We are very sorry to learn of Mrs. Rachel Turner's death. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Aubrey Daniel. The Daniel family attended her funeral Saturday,
as did Mrs. Gladys Wilkerson of Dallas. While here, Mrs. Wilkerson also visited her daughter and family, Aubrey Daniel, over the week end.

Mike Daniel and Bobby Craig attended the rodeo in Palestine Friday night, participating in the bull riding event.

D. W. Slayton and family, including his married son, Dan Slayton, and family of Bethel had an egg hunt and lunch together Sunday.

Newt and Juanita Stillwell had lunch in the Ed Rice home Sunday. Other visitors in the Rice home were Mr. and Mrs. Ray McGlawn of Athens,
D. W. Slayton and wife, Opal, and girls Nelda Jean, Rita and Linda Kaye. They all enjoyed a forty-two party while there.

Newt Stillwell hasn't been feeling too well. He had the flu sometime ago and been slow recuperating from it. Hope he soon feels better.

Mrs. C. V. Foster and son, Ronnie, of Irving also spent Sunday night in the Marshall McGlawn home near Athens. She was going to see a dentist Monday
before returning home. She formerly lived in the house now occupied by your correspondent, before moving to Dallas. They later moved to present location.

The winds are howling outside. A little hail fell this morning. Wish we could get a good rain. It's needed so much.
