Cpl. Cook Receives Discharge From Army; Was In Bulge Fighting
Cpl. Leland G. Cook, veteran of fighting in the European theater and the historic Battle of the Bulge, 
has received a discharge from the service and he and Mrs. Cook spent the week end with her parents,
the Rev. and Mrs. S. L. Culwell.
Cpl. Cook was with troops who held out a week at Bastgone without food and ammunition and who
gave the famous "nuts" reply to the German ultimatum to surrender.
He served with the field artillery of the Third Army and was overseas for one year and four months.
He wears the ETO ribbon with seven battle stars.  He has been on guard duty in France and
Germany since the war ended.
Cpl. and Mrs. Cook will make their home in Waco.

Pfc. Roberts Awaits Transportation Home; To Receive Discharge
Pfc. James C. Roberts of Bloomburg, Pacific veteran, is awaiting transportation home from
Luzon to be discharged.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Roberts of route 2.
Veteran infantryman with twenty-four months of overseas service, Roberts saw action with
the 148th Regiment, 37th Division, on Bougainville and Luzon, and served on New Caledonia
and Guadalcanal.
He is authorized to wear the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Philippine
Liberation ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon.

Osbon Receives Air Medal For Pacific Service
Durell Osborn, aviation radioman third class, route 1, Murchison, a member of Air Group 1, 
which severely punished Japanese fleet units and ground installations in the closing days 
of the war, was presented the Air Medal recently aboard the USS Bennington, at sea.
Osborn's  mother, Mrs. E. S. Lewis, also lives on route 1, Murchison.
