The Colonel J. C. GOODGAME buried in Athens City Cemetery is the following:   Colonel John Chapman GOODGAME born September 18, 1835 in Talladega County, Alabama and died in Athens, Henderson County, Texas. He was the Colonel of the 12th Alabama Infantry Regiment. His wife was Elverena "Ellen" THOMAS born July 1840 Coosa County. They were married September 16, 1858 Socopatoy Community, Coosa County. They came to Texas immediately when the war ended. Ellen is suppose to be buried in a unmarked grave next to John according to the family bible. Arminta and Jennie that is buried next to John is his and Ellen's children who died young. Ellen Thomas GOODGAME was the daughter of Etheldred Watson Thomas born 1799 and from Coosa County. If you need further let me know as I am a descendant of this family. One last interesting thing, Ellen's brother was Captain Patrick Thomas of Compnay B, 12th Alabama that her husband was the Colonel of. Patrick was shot in the head and killed at Appomattox the day before the war ended.   Randy Thomas Mystik6@cox.net
