Crime
In Athens Just Doesn't Pay
Athens, Texas (UP)
Sheriff Jess Sweeten has got the word that crime does not
pay in Athens, though not entirely because of Sweeten's
efforts.
Police in Baton Rouge, La., advised Sweeten that they
arrested a man wanted in Athens for burglary. The
questioning of the suspect went like this:
Q. How Long were you in Athens and how
many jobs did you pull?
A. I don't know for sure. But I do know
that Athens is the poorest town I ever worked in. I
worked all night, got into eight or ten places and only
got $30 for my trouble.
