First Church of God

The First Church of God, which was first organized in February of 1956, moved into a new building in June of this year.  Pastor of the church is the Rev. Benjamin G. Stewart.  He came to the church in the early part of June.  The new building, located on South Palestine Highway on Route 2, is valued at approximately $40,000.  The new auditorium of the new structure has a seating capacity of about 200.  The church was first organized with temporary meetings that were held in a private residence for the first 10 months of existance.  The church then moved to 103 Slagle St., where services were held until the present building was completed.  The officers of the church include  I.M Skinner, chairman of the board of trustees; Mrs. Horace Pitts, member of the board,; Mrs. Marlin Germany, church secretary; and Mrs. Henry Beesley, treasurer.
