JUDGE NATHAN YARBROUGH

Judge Nathan Yarbrough was born March
1, 1810, in Franklin County, Georgia, on the land his grandfather
obtained as a bounty in the
Revolutionary war. He moved to Decatur, Georgia, in 1835 near where
Atlanta now
stands. In 1836 he went to Rome,
Georgia, where he married Miss Margaret Lamkin in April, 1839. He was
elected
to the legislature from Floyd County,
Georgia, in 1845. He had the town of Rome incorporated and was its first
mayor and was the third post master
[he was the third mayor]. He held all the various offices of Floyd
County
including Sheriff of which positions
he was efficient and faithful to every trust imposed upon him.
He moved to Texas in 1870, stopping at
Hillsboro and the next year moved to Comanche where he resided until his
death June 22, 1899. He was 89 years,
3 months, and 22 days old.
He had been a worthy mason fifty
years. He joined the Baptist Church in 1858. He was a good citizen in
all the
walks of life. He raised one brother,
one sister, and 9 children, four boys and five girls.
