HOMER HAFFORD

(De Leon Free Press, Thursday, March 6, 1980)

Homer Hafford, 81, was dead on arrival at the De Leon Hospital Thursday at 5:55 p.m. (28 Feb 1980). Services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Charles McClure, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery, under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Born June 22, 1898, in Navarro County, he was a retired butcher and grocery man. He married Opal Nabors December 16, 1917, in De Leon. He was a Methodist. He had lived in and around De Leon since he was eight years old.

His wife preceded him in death in 1965. Survivors include a son, Derroll of Waco; three brothers, Alfred of Downing, Hollie and Nomer, both of De Leon; a sister, Emma Vaughan of Durant, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

The music was furnished by the Methodist Church choir and friends.

Pallbearers were Alvin Hafford, Robert Johnson, Jim Nabors, John Nabors, Emmett Locke, and Claude Underhill.

De Leon, Texas 

Jimmy Lois Hafford, 70, a clerk for the city of De Leon died Wednesday at a De Leon hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. Burial: Downing Cemetery.

JOHN NOMER HAFFORD

John Nomer Hafford, 78, a longtime resident of De Leon, died at 1:07 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1981 in De Leon Hospital.

Funeral services were at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at First Methodist Church, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home, De Leon.

Rev. Charles McClure, minister of the church, officiated.

Burial was in Downing Cemetery.

Born November 19, 1902, in Navarro County, he was retired from the grocery business. He married Pauline Skaggs January 26, 1941, in Granbury. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bobby Winkles of De Leon; a daughter, Christeen McDonald of Abilene; two brothers, Alfred of Downing and Hollie Hafford of De Leon; a sister, Emma Vaughan of Durant, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

JOYLENE HAFFORD

Joylene Hafford, 49, a lifelong resident of De Leon, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 1981 in De Leon

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at First United Methodist Church, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home, De Leon.

Burial was in Downing Cemetery.

Born August 21, 1931, in De Leon, she was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Hollie and Maude Hafford of De Leon; and a sister, Jimmie Lois Hafford of De Leon.

MAUDE HAFFORD

Maude Hafford, 85, a lifelong resident of De Leon, passed away Monday, July 18, 1983, at 4:05 a.m. in the De Leon Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born January 25, 1898, in Comanche County to the late Henry and Sally Heath.  On December 16, 1914, she married Hollie Hafford. He preceded her in death June 5, 1982. She was a member of the De Leon First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the De Leon First United Methodist Church with Brother Charles McClure of Ennis officiating. Music was by C. L. Mohon, Jr., Al Strassner, Marvin Holdridge, C. G. Morton, and Claude Wayne Underhill.

Pallbearers were Bobby Winkles, Glenn Peoples, Ray Harvey, Emmett Locke, I. C. Donegan, and Bobby Gayle Winkles.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hafford is survived by one daughter, Jimmie Lois Hafford of De Leon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joylene, and a sister, Flo Appleby, and four brothers, Blake, Arthur, Milton, and James Heath.

GERALD HANSON

(De Leon)

Gerald Hanson, a farmer, died Tuesday, 26 Apr 1994, at a De Leon hospital.  He was 76.

Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon.  Burial will be in Downing Cemetery.

Mr. Hanson was born in Comanche County January 1, 1918, where he was a lifelong resident.

He was member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors: Wife, Maurice Hanson of De Leon; daughter, Mary Oma Mathis of De Leon; brother, Joy Dean Hanson of De Leon; three sisters, Elizabeth Smith of Euless, Faye Moore of fort Worth, and June Rumple of Stephenville; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

URA WILLIE HANSON

Funeral services for Ura Willie Hanson, 92, formerly of the Downing community, were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1988, in the De Leon Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Minister Ralph (Frank) Starling and music was by the De Leon Church of Christ. Burial was in Downing Cemetery.

Mrs. Hanson died December 19 at the Mulberry Manor Nursing Home in Stephenville.

Born April 26, 1896, in Comanche County, she was married to George W. Hanson on August 3, 1913, in Comanche County. Mr. Hanson died March 21, 1952. She was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Hanson and Joy Dean Hanson, both of the Downing community; three daughters, Elizabeth Smith of Euless, June Rumple of Stephenville, and Faye Moore of Fort Worth; two brothers, Robert Howard and Frank Lancaster, both of De Leon; three sisters, Stella Wolf of Hamlin, Alma Owens of Wichita Falls, and Rachel Hamilton of De Leon; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers, and three sisters.

De Leon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BOB HASLEY

(Tomball, Texas) Bob Hasley, 77, died Friday, December 28, 1990, at a hospital in Tomball.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball with Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Masonic graveside rites were at 1 p.m. Sunday at Downing Cemetery, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home. Masonic graveside rites were by Armstrong Masonic Lodge No. 445, De Leon.

Mr. Hasley was born in De Leon on June 25, 1913, to John William, Sr., and Maude Rucker Hasley. He was a pipeline inspector for Exxon, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tomball, a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps in Africa and Italy, and member of Tomball Lodge No. 1096.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie Hasley of Tomball; a daughter, Syleta (Mrs. Howell) Jones of Pasadena; a sister, Lillie (Mrs. Johnny) Allen of El Paso; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Warner, and a brother, J. W. ATrump@ Hasley.

CUMBIE OLYN HATLEY

Cumbie O. Hatley Taken by Death

Cumbie O. Hatley, 67, resident of the Downing Community for many years before moving to Comanche eleven years ago passed away here Sunday following an illness of less than 24 hours. He had worked most of the day Saturday preceding his death the next day at 5 p.m. 

Funeral services were held for Mr. Hatley Monday afternoon at the Downing Methodist Church with Rev. J. D. Smoot, Comanche Methodist minister, and Rev. Arthur Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Comanche, in charge. 

Pallbearers were W. C. McKlesky, George H. Loudermilk, Lee Spruill, Tiller Yates, Roy Thomas, and Elzo Brinson.
 

Mr. Hatley, who was considered one of Comanche County’s best citizens, was born June 6, 1882 in Goodwater,
Alabama. He came to Texas in 1904, settling in the Downing Community where he lived until after the death of his

wife and some eleven years ago when he came to Comanche to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ronald Dillin. 

Mr. Hatley was married June 25, 1907, to Miss Pearl Beaty, who passed away December 5, 1937. They were the parents of two children who survive: Arl Hatley of Fort Worth and Mrs. (Larue) Dillin; also surviving are the following grandchildren, John Arl Hatley, Jr. and Patricia Hatley of Fort Worth, and Neta Fay and George Dillin, Jr. of Comanche, and by two following sisters, Mrs.  J. H. Holmes of De Leon and Mrs. John Shipp of Alabama and by a number of nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Hatley was converted early in life and united with the Methodist Church. 

Burial: November 6, 1949, Downing Cemetery, Downing, Comanche County, Texas.

BELON COLON HORNSBY

BELON C. Hornsby, 60, of Lubbock, formerly of Abilene and Wichita Falls, died Tuesday, December 3, 1985, at Lubbock General Hospital after a sudden illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in De Leon.

Burial will be at Downing Cemetery, near De Leon, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home of De Leon. Local arrangements are made by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Born Jan. 22, 1925, in De Leon, to the late Arlo and Annie Kerley Hornsby. He married Laverne Carmack Feb. 5, 1944, in De Leon. He retired in 1980 after 35 years in the retail lumber business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a resident of Lubbock since 1980, moving from Wichita Falls. He moved to Wichita Falls from Abilene. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksboro.

Funeral services for Mr. Hornsby were held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, 1985, in the De Leon First Baptist Church with Brother Cecil Harper officiating. Music was by La Joyce Johnson, C. L. Mohon, Pearl Spruill, Al Strassner, and Wayne Chambers. Pallbearers were Otis Solley, Michael Couch, Billy Rainwater, Harold Moore, Mark Hogue, and James Coan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Truman Hornsby.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne of the home; two sons, Max Hornsby of Wichita Falls and Roger Hornsby, of Lubbock; a daughter, Janis Hornsby of New Orleans, La; and a grandson, Josh.

VERA ADALINE HORNSBY

Funeral services for Vera Adaline Hornsby, 82, of De Leon, were held Saturday, July 2, 1983, at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowlin

Mrs. Hornsby was born October 22, 1900, in Comanche County, Texas to the late C. H. and Anna Simpson. He was married to Moses d. Hornsby in 1924 in Comanche County. He preceded her in death. She had lived in De Leon most of her life and was a member of the Downing Methodist Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Carl Simpson of De Leon, John Simpson of Comanche, Willard Simpson of Gatesville, and Varnell Simpson of Irving; one sister, Beuna Loudermilk; two grandsons, David Cook of Dallas and Dale Cook of Plano; and a great-grandson, Aaron Cook of Plano.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

SARAH MAE WILSON HULSEY

Mrs. Claude (Sarah Mae) Hulsey, 82, longtime resident of the Downing Community died Tuesday, November 5, 1985 at her De Leon home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hulsey were at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon, November 8, at Nowlin Funeral Home, De Leon.

Officiating was Payne Hattox, a Church of Christ minister.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Born August 23, 1903, in Comanche County, she married Claude Hulsey October 2, 1921. He died June 23, 1955. She was a member of Downing Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by a son, John Doyle Hulsey, July 8, 1957 and one brother Volentine Wilson, April 18, 1981.

Survivors include three sons, James Q. “Buck” Hulsey of Fort Worth, Jerry W. Hulsey of Fort Worth, and Gerald D. Hulsey of Jerome, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

SARAH MAE HULSEY, 82, of De Leon was found at her home Tuesday, November 5, 1985; apparently she had passed away on Monday, November 4, 1985. Sarah was born August 23, 1903 in Comanche County, Texas to the late Frank and Eula Powers Wilson. She was married to Claude Hulsey on October 2, 1921 in Comanche. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1975. She had lived in the Downing area most all of her life, being a member of the Downing Baptist Church.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hulsey were held Friday, November 8, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowlin Funeral Chapel with Minister Payne Hattox officiating. Music was by LaJoyce Johnson and C. L. BETTY SUE KENNEDY

Betty Sue Evans Kennedy, 83, of De Leon, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1987, at 7:34 a.m. in the De Leon Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1987, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Mosser officiating.  Dotty Hare provided music for the service. Burial was under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home in Downing Cemetery

The daughter of John R. and Martha Loudermilk Evans was born in Downing, Texas, on July 11, 1904. She was a

retired school teacher and came to De Leon in 1981 from Odessa. She was married on July 31, 1984, to Clarence Kennedy who survives. She was a member of Chapter 693 Order of Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in De Leon.

Survivors, besides her husband, include a stepson, Larry Kennedy of Huntsville, Alabama; a great niece Ruby “Ren” Goins of Kingsland, Texas; a great-great niece, Paula Price of Odessa; a great-great-nephew, Dirk Brown of Odessa; a great-great-great nephew, Jason Herndon of Odessa; two step-grandchildren, Joel and Jennifer Kennedy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Kennedy were Cal Calhoun, Larry Simpson, Deryl Brown, Coy Otwell, Hank Kimbro, and Bill Livingston.  Named as honorary pallbearers were Garland Andress and Leonard Foster.

KATHERINE KENNEDY

Katherine Kennedy, 71, former Brownwood resident, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1987, in Napa, Calif.

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov 27, 1987, at the Downing Cemetery, in Comanche County, Texas, with Rev. Leon Woods officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Born in Troop, she lived in Brownwood and El Paso and moved to California 11 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Bobby O. Kennedy of Napa, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Katherine Knight of Rome, N.Y.; two brothers, Herman Kerbow of Corpus Christi and Jess Hayes of Brownwood; a stepsister, Ruby Brubaker of Brownwood; a step-brother, Frank Kerbow of Coleman; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

De Leon – Ovie Winkler Kennedy, 94, a homemaker, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at a Clifton care center.

 Graveside services: 3:30 p.m., Monday in Downing Cemetery. 

She was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Big Sandy, moved to De Leon in 1992. She was married to Travis G. Kennedy in 1933. He preceded her in death in 2004. 

Survivors: Son, Jerry M. Kennedy and wife Joyce of Monroville, PA; daughter, Carolyn Sue Miller and husband, Terry of Clifton.

Ovie Winkler Kennedy, 94, of De Leon, Texas died on Friday, April 28, 2006 in the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home in Clifton, Texas.
 

She was born on September 20, 1911 in Big Sandy, Texas to the late Francis (Frank) M. Winkler and Zora Winifred
Smith Winkler. She was a homemaker and moved to De Leon in 1922 having previously lived in

Lampasas and Odessa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Leon. 

Mrs. Kennedy was united in marriage to Travis G. Kennedy on September 23, 1933 in Rising Star, Texas. Mr. Kennedy preceded her in death on December 8, 2004. 

She is survived by son, Jerry M. Kennedy and wife Joyce of Monroeville, PA; daughter, Carolyn Sue Miller and husband Terry of Clifton; five brothers, Raymond Winkler of Midland, Billy Winkler of Odessa, Joe Winkler and wife Su-Ann of San Angelo, Adon Winkler and wife Bobbie of Temple, and Gaylon Winkler and wife Dora of Monahans; two sisters, Lonna Wise of Midland, and Zella Glover of North Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Joe Kennedy and wife Juliet of San Jose, California, Lynn Fetsko and husband Bob of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kelly Cetin and husband Kerim of Livonia, MI, Angela Eagle and husband Steve of Pittsburg, PA, Roscoe Miller and wife Jenny of Granbury, Justin Miller and wife Morgana of El Paso, and Jake Miller and fiancé Dina Konyshev of Honolulu, Hawaii; and 9 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild  to be born soon. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Leonard Duward “Peanut” and Troy Winkler. 

Funeral Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2006 at graveside in the Downing Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas with Pastor Lisa Neslony officiating.

MILDRED O. HULSEY

Mildred O. Hulsey, age 89, of De Leon, Texas, died on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at the Canterbury Villa Nursing Home in De Leon.

Mrs. Hulsey was born April 18, 1910 in Comanche county to A. L. Colcleasure and Ellen Fritts Colcleasure, both deceased. She married Ben Hulsey in Comanche County on April 10, 1937. Mrs. Hulsey was a homemaker and had resided in Comanche County area all of her life. She was a Protestant.

Graveside funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 1000 at the Downing Cemetery. Rev. Jackie Auvenshine officiated with Nowlin Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Oden of Abilene and Marjorie Click of Lakewood, Colorado; and two grandchildren. She was also preceded by her husband, Ben Hulsey and one sister, Dovie Scott.

Albert Isaac Lampman, 64, retired truck driver, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at a De Leon nursing home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Nowlin Funeral Home. Burial: Downing Cemetery.

Albert Isaac Lampman was born June 10, 1936, in Alvarado to Albert I. Lampman, Sr. and Ozella Riley Lampman. He had lived in De Leon since 1989. He was a Pentecostalist.

Mr. Lampman was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors: Wife, Deloris Barton Lampman, sons, Michael Lampman of Rome, GA., and Mark Lampman of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Terri Mullins of Gustine; brothers, L. H. Lampman of De Leon, Ed Lampman of Crowley, and Gene Lampman of Fort Worth,; sister, Nedra Lampman of Morgan; and four grandchildren.

Bert Leonard Lee of Levelland, Texas was born September 8, 1914, and died November 5, 1988 in Lubbock, Texas.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 7, 1988 at 10:00 a.m. in Levelland in the  Geo. C. Price Funeral Chapel with Dale Self  of Levelland and Jim Lindley of Lubbock officiating.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 7th, 1988 at 5:00 p.m. in the Downing Cemetery, Downing, Texas.

Survivors included his wife Myrtle Hafford Lee of Levelland; his daughter Sharon Smith of Levelland; two brothers, Rubin Lee of Florida and Eduis Lee of Oklahoma; and two grandchildren.

IMA LESLEY

Ima Lesley, 73, of De Leon passed away at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 1985, at the De Leon Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Jan 18, 1912, in Comanche County to the late Walter and Mintie Wilson Loudermilk. On Nov 27, 1932, she was married to Noble Lesley, who preceded her in death Oct 20, 1967. She was a member of the Downing Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lesley were held Wednesday, June 12, at 2:30 p.m. in the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jimmy Cantwell of Brownwood officiating and Minister Payne Hattox of De Leon assisting. Music was arranged by Fred Holdridge. Pallbearers were Franklin Loudermilk, John Scott, Walter Loudermilk, Gerald VanZandt, Wayland Loudermilk, Wayland Lesley, Woodrow Browning, and Alvin Hafford.  Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis and Royce; one brother, Don Loudermilk; and five grandchildren. Nine brothers, Murray, Holder, Lloyd, O.A., Earney, Houston, Lee, Ewell, and Roy, and one sister, Alma Hafford, preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Henry Dewayne Lewis, 44, of Houston, formerly of De Leon were at 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, 1981. at the Northside Baptist Church in De Leon.

Rev. Elmer Whitehead officiated.

Burial was in Downing Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Mr. Lewis died at 4:05 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at Diagnostic Hospital in Houston.

He was born April 15, 1936 in Gorman and had lived in Houston the past two years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Arbella Lewis of De Leon; a son, Ronnie Lewis of Houston, a daughter, Belinda Spear of Dallas; a brother, L. T. Lewis of De Leon; a sister, Nina Davidson of Midland; and four grandchildren.

VERNON LEWIS

Vernon Lewis, 33, Comanche truck driver, died at 10:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon, June 14, 1984, in Comanche Community Hospital after an extended illness.

Graveside services for Mr. Lewis were held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 17, in Downing Cemetery. Officiating was Tommy Johnson, minister of the Church of Christ, N. Pearl, Comanche.

Mr. Lewis, son of Milton and Helen Campbell Lewis, was born October 30, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Ginger Evans on June 27 in Kirksville, Missouri. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger of Comanche, three sons, Vernon Lee Lewis, Jr. William Joseph Lewis, and Milton Stanley Lewis all of Jacksboro; his parents, Milton and Helen Lewis of Green Forest, Arkansas; one brother, Eugene Lewis of Kirksville, Missouri; and one sister, Wanda Ayes of California.

JESSIE JAMES LOGAN

Funeral services for Jessie James Logan, 59, of De Leon, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1982, at Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon.

Rev. Jimmy King officiated. Burial was in Downing Cemetery.

Mr. Logan died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple.

Born February 1, 1923, in Hollis Springs, Arkansas, he had lived in De Leon most of his life. He was a laborer and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two brothers, Ethan A. Logan of De Leon, and Elmer Gay Logan of Wolf City; a sister, Eva Lee Ray of Wolf City; and several nieces and nephews.

DON WILSON LOUDERMILK

Don Wilson Loudermilk, 80, died Sunday, November 13, 1994, at his residence in De Leon (Downing), Texas.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. in the De Leon Church of Christ.  Glenn Boyd, assisted by A. C. Morris officiated.

Interment was in the Downing Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Mr. Loudermilk was born October 9, 1914 in Downing, Texas. On October 7, 1933 he married Nathilee Boyd of De Leon.

He had lived in the De Leon area all his life.

Survivors are his wife, Nathilee Loudermilk of Downing; one daughter, Freda Van Zandt of Downing; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

DORIS JUANITA LOUDERMILK

Mrs. Doris Juanita Loudermilk, 40, of 517 Castle Lake Dr. in Friendswood, Tex., died late Saturday afternoon at her home.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the De Leon Church of Christ with the minister, Payne Hattox, officiating. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery with Nabors Funeral Home of De Leon in charge.

Born September 27, 1925, in Meridian, Tex., she married Roy Lee Loudermilk Feb 21, 1947, in Brownwood. She was a Baptist.

Survivors are her husband of Friendswood; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Odis Welborn of Brownwood; one son, Larry of the home; one daughter, Crystal of the home, and one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Osborn of Brownwood.

EARNEY V. LOUDERMILK

Earney V. Loudermilk, 70, died Saturday, April 18, at his Downing home, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services for Mr. Loudermilk were conducted Tuesday afternoon, April 21, in the De Leon Church of Christ.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Mr. Loudermilk was born January 15, 1894 at Downing, Comanche County.

He was married June 12, 1920 to Miss Oma Garner.

A lifetime resident of Downing, Mr. Loudermilk was a member of the Downing Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War I.

Mr. Loudermilk is survived by his wife of Downing; a daughter, Mrs. Aline Quenon of Athens, Greece; two sons, Roy Lee Loudermilk of Goldthwaite, and Earney Gayle Loudermilk of Abilene; five brothers, Murray Loudermilk of Brownwood, Lee Loudermilk of Comanche, and Roy, Houston and Don Loudermilk, all of Downing; two sisters, Mrs. Noble Lesley and Mrs. Alfred Hafford, both of Downing; and five grandchildren.

ELLEN EMELINE LOUDERMILK

Mrs. Ellen Emeline Loudermilk, wife of the late W. T. Loudermilk, died at her home a mile north of Downing at 11:30 o’clock p.m., Thursday, February 7, 1928. The cause of her death was paralysis. She had been in failing health for three years but had only been seriously ill for three weeks prior to her death. 

Mrs. Loudermilk was born March 3, 1866, being not quite 62 years of age. She was borned in the Downing community and spent her life there. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Vol Wilson, the Wilson homestead being two or three miles east of Downing. 

W. T. Loudermilk, her husband, has been dead for six and a half years. He was for many years a prominent figure not only in the community in which he lived, but filled positions of prominence in the state and at one time aspired to a seat in the national congress. 

Seven children survive this good woman, six sons and a daughter. They are: Mrs. Lloyd Boyett, De Leon, Rt 4;  F. V., O.V., A. B., W. E., W. F., and G. J. There are nine grandchildren. Sisters of the deceased woman are Mrs. John Nabors, De Leon; Mrs. Henry Beaty, Loraine; Mrs. Walter Loudermilk, Downing; Mrs. Jim Bishop, Downing, Mrs. Joe Griffith, Santa Anna. Brothers are Henry, John and Dave Wilson, all of nearby Downing and Van Dyke. 

Mrs. Loudermilk was a member of the Church of Christ for many years. Eld. Moss of Comanche conducted the
