RICHARD SCHLADOER LAID TO REST AT BANDERA
Richard Schladoer, a native of Comfort, but a long-time resident of Bandera, passed away very suddenly at his home there last Wednesday morning. He had arisen, milked the cows and fed the chickens when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Funeral services were held from his home Thursday afternoon under the direction of Mr. Plummer, mortician, and interment was made in the Bandera cemetery. Robt. C. Herbst of Comfort read an obituary in which he paid high tribute to the fine character and excellent qualities of this good man. The Comfort Mixed Choir sang a selection at the home and two songs at the grave. The pallbearers were Henry Schladoer, Ivan Schladoer, Walter Doehne, Oscar Heinen, Chris Jenschke and Arthur Pickens. The funeral was a large one and the many beautiful flowers were a tribute to the respect and esteem felt for the deceased.
Richard Schladoer was born at Comfort on January 1st, 1873, a son of Robert and Caroline Schladoer. He attended the Comfort public school and grew to manhood here. And on September 16th, 1895, he married Miss Ernestine Doehne of New Braunfels. The young couple lived here until 1920, when they moved to Bandera to make their home and have resided there ever since. Mr. Schladoer farmed all his life.
Mr. Schladoer is survived by his widow, three sons, Bennie and Ernst of Bandera, Edwin of San Antonio and two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Lena) Pfeiffer of Comfort and Mrs. Clarence (Annie) Ellsworth of San Antonio. Other survivors are six grandchildren and two brothers, Chas. Schladoer of Comfort and Albert Schladoer of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by three sons, his parents, a brother, George Schladoer and a sister, Mrs. Auguste Grollimund, both of Comfort and 2 sisters who died in infancy.
Mr. Schladoer was a man of fine character and qualities and was respected and esteemed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.The News joins his host of friends here in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
