Death came Tuesday to relieve the suffering of Rufus Evans, who had been ill for a number of years. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Plummer Funeral Home with Rev. E. C. Ray officiating. Pall bearers were his grandsons, Levi, Otil and Filo Evans, Hubert Jemeyson, Clinton Saathoff and M. A. Fuglaar. Internment was in the Bandera Cemetery.
Rufus Flax Evans was born on March 17, 1858 at Seguin, Guadalupe County. On Sept. 6, 1881 he married Mrs. Johnnie Petty Robison and a few years later they moved to the ranch in Medina County where he has lived the past 57 years. His wife passed away on June 23, 1907 at Camp San Saba and she was buried at Brady. He had reached the age of 83 years, 8 months and 8 days.
Surviving him are one son, Rufus James Evans, one daughter, Mrs. Lola Amelia Woodward of near Bandera, one brother, George Evans of Moore, two sisters, Mrs. John Edgar and Mrs. Emma Keeler of San Antonio, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The deceased was a friend to everyone and was loved by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving father, a true friend, good neighbor and thoughtful of others. His passing removes another beloved pioneer. The New Era offers condolences to the bereaved.
