John Eckhart, one of South West Texas best known Stockmen and Farmers, died suddenly at Bandera Wednesday night at 9:30 o'clock, May 14th, at his home seven miles south of Bandera, Heart Failure being the cause. He was born in Medina County, Aug. 18, 1860 and in later years he moved to Bandera County where he was married to Miss Emma Kelley, and located on his ranch where he lived up to the time of his death. He was noted as a stockman and one of the best Scientific Farmers Texas ever owned. He was a great promoter of the Angora Goat industry, and owned one of the best herds in the State. He was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association in which he took an active part to build up the industry. He believed in carrying everything to its highest standard. He was known for his honesty and wide reputation. His death was a shock to all who knew him. The body was interred in the Bandera Cemetery by Camp No. 1094 Woodmen of the World of which he was a member. He is survived by his widow, three sons and two daughters. Leroy, who is a Mounted Police Officer in San Antonio; Raymond J., an engineer for the Pintch Compressing Company of New York; Harley, Ola and Leah of this place, and a great circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
