MRS. KATE JOINER, PIONEER MOTHER, DIED TUESDAY
(Katherine Farmer Joiner, 01 Aug 1840 - 13 Feb 1934)Mrs. Kate Joiner, aged 94 years, 6 months and 12 days, died Tuesday at the home of her son-in-law, E. O. Chipman on Mason Creek. Death was due to old age. She had been failing for the past few months, and the end came quietly. Funeral services were conducted at the Chipman home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. W. Vasco Teer, and interment was made in the Bandera cemetery.
Mrs. Joiner had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Chipman for more than thirty-five years. She was born in Macon county, Mississippi, in 1840, and in 1861 she was happily married to William B. Joiner, who died here in 1890.
Six children were born to this union, four of whom survive; Mrs. Mark Davenport, Mrs. E. O. Chipman, Sid Joiner and Lon Joiner, all of Bandera. There are 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
This dear old pioneer mother had lived in Bandera county fifty-four years, and was known and loved by everyone. For her the span of life was lengthened beyond the usual number of years allotted to man - they were all busy years for her, for she was always ready to answer the cry of distress, perform an act of kindness, or render assistance when called upon.
Hundreds of friends throughout Bandera county mourn the passing of Grandma Joiner.
