"My 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Augustus Riggs"
From:
Newer grave stone at one end & old stone at other end.

"I was told that he had a ranch on the Medina River outside of Bandera. Family stories & bible records state that he died 16 Sep 1867 in a terrible flood that sent the Medina River spilling over it's banks for miles. He was found several days later by 2 of his son's & a slave that had been searching for him. They buried him on the spot that they found him in what is now a small park on private land located near Pipe Springs, TX. Thomas Augustus Riggs was born 1802 in KY. He married Rhoda Casey & they had 13 children."
"They came to TX in the early 1850's. They first settled in Bell & Coryell Co. TX. One of his sons, John Casey Riggs & his wife Jane Johnson Riggs were killed by Indians in March of 1859 & 2 grand daughters were stolen. This happened near Sugar Loaf Mountain by what is now Ft. Hood, TX. The girls were found & they & their 2 little brothers went to live with Grandparents Thomas & Rhoda Riggs. Shortly after that is when they moved to the ranch on the Medina River near Bandera. After Thomas drowned his family moved back to Old Corn Hill, TX. to be near other family members. Rhoda died in 1881 & is buried near Old Corn Hill in the Land Cemetery, Jerrell, TX. with 4 or 5 of her children & grand children."
